Turbine selection criteria [45].

Head, flow rate and power Identified the variation of flow in the river to produce the required frequency and output power
Civil works Minimized the civil works of dams, settling basin, spillway, weir, trash rack, canal, forebay, penstock and tailrace
Electrical systems Both asynchronous and synchronous generators with either single or 3 phase applied to convert mechanical rotational energy to electrical energy based on the turbine capacity.
Proper planning and design of control system includes governor, transformer and transmission lines to consumers or to the grid
Maintenance and serviceability Hydropower plant to be simple and even unskilled labour can conduct the maintenance
Modularity The turbine in modules to allow for easy fault identification and module replacement
Efficiency The efficiency of the unit at rated and partially of flow rate and head
Portability Able to be transported and located with the limited infrastructure
